Overview

Founded in 1845, University College Cork (UCC) is part of the three Queen's Colleges. The University has been named Irish University of the year five times and UCC offers over 120 degrees in Humanities, Business, Law, Architecture, Science, Food and Nutritional Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Clinical Therapies, with over 20,000 students currently enrolled.

Cork offers a world-class student experience with the highest quality teaching, learning and research via exceptional UCC courses. With an emphasis on independent learning, there is a rich and dynamic range of opportunities for students to engage with. Students are encouraged to challenge ideas in a community environment that offers top-quality pastoral care for all.

UCC's acceptance rate is 41% and a wide variety of UCC degrees also provide placements with top national and international companies.

Services for International Students

University College Cork offers healthcare services for students, and general appointments are free of charge. There are over 80 active societies and 40 different sports clubs at the University, many sponsored by the Bank of Ireland who also supply funding and scholarships.

Regular charitable activities of UCC students’ societies raise over 100,000 euros annuals.

Accommodation

UCC provides campus accommodation to students on the basis of a random lottery. To accept a room, one should send a confirmation and deposit amount within the first week after announcement of allocation. For students who stay off-campus, UCC offers a search engine where students can find registered landlords.

Lodgings are usually available for €110 to €140 per person per week, with a deposit depending on the owner’s demands. Generally, electricity, internet, meals are included in the rent.

Location

Situated in the heart of the serene city of Cork, UCC is connected to Dublin, Limerick, and Waterford through high speed trains. The city is small enough to walk around, but big enough to explore. It is easy for students to go to and from the University through various public transport, and local sights such as the Blarney Castle and Fota Wildlife Park are also close by.
