Indian based scholarships
Aga Khan Scholarship
They provide very limited numbers of Scholarships each year and give first preference to Postgraduate students and then PHD students. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% Loan. The application process held once a year in June or July. The main criteria for selecting award winners are: l) Excellent academic records, 2) Genuine financial need. Age of the student should not be more than 30 years. The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships.

Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK.
The Chevening programme began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 116 countries worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support approximately 700 individuals. There are over 41,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university.

Chevening Scholarships in India

Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme
The Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme is an exclusive new Scholarships Programme for high-flying, mid-career journalists. Apply by 7 December 2012.
Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Programme 2013
A tailor-made programme for high-flying mid-career Indian professionals working in the fields of science, innovation, and related public administration. Apply by 25 November 2012.
The programme offers three full scholarships for Indian citizens towards one-year Master Courses at any accredited UK University.
The Chevening Gurukul Scholarships for Leadership and Excellence
The Chevening Gurukul Leadership Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s premium scholarship scheme for India.
The Chevening Clore Leadership Programme
The Chevening Clore Leadership Programme aims to shape emerging creative leaders through in-depth learning. It is tailored as far as possible to the needs, aspirations and circumstances of the individual.
Chevening - Weidenfeld scholarships at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford
The scholarship is open to Master of Public Policy candidates.
Chevening IBFP Parliamentarians Programme
A week-long programme for Indian Parliamentarians with tailor made sessions focussed on leadership, international relations, public policy.

Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships
This is an annual scheme made available to all Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. The India programme is managed jointly by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU, UK); Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India and the British Council.
The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has announced the COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS PLAN, 2013-UK.

The Scholarship is open for applications for 2013-14. Last date to apply is 7th October 2012 for applying online and 12th October 2012 for receiving application in the Ministry by post/by hand.

Overseas Research Student Awards Scheme
The ORSAS helps international Postgraduate research students to study in UK. They pay the difference of the international fees and the home students Fees only. They will not pay for your accommodation or travel or maintenance. Excellent academic records students and Research Potential students are only eligible for this Scholarship. Inlaks Scholarships
This Scholarship is for 2 years in good UK institutions, for degrees in all kind of subjects, except Engineering, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Business Studies, Medicine, Public Health, Indian Studies and Indian History and if student want to apply for Phd we can extended up to 4 years. Scholarships are open to all Indians student who hold a good degree from a recognized university and are resident in India at the time of application. All applicants must have done their first degree in India. Candidates must be below 30 years of age on the first of July in the year of application. Preference will be given to candidates who have not yet studied abroad. In Lakhs Scholarships applications are accepted between Jan’11 to April’11.

Faiths Act Fellowship
To be eligible for the Faiths Act Fellowship, applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 27 on July 1, 2011. Applicants must also be a citizen or legal resident of the United Kingdom, Canada, India, or the United States. Fellows are legally employed by NGOs in each country and will be required to provide documentation of citizenship or legal residency for tax purposes. Deadline to apply for this scholarship was 31st Dec’10.

Felix Scholarships
This scheme offers 6 different Scholarships for Graduates of India at University of Oxford, University of Reading, and School of Oriental and African Studies every year.The last dates to apply to this scholarship are 7th Jan’11 for Oxford, 18th Feb’11 for Reading, and 31st Jan’11 for SOAS.Eligibility: Maximum 30 years of age with First Class bachelors Degree from recognized Indian University.

Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship Programme
This scholarship is known as interest free Loan Scholarship and this scholarship is given for postgraduate studies in the field of Science, law, Management, Humanities, Architecture etc. A candidate should be the citizen of India and not be more than 30 years of age as on 31st Jan’11, having recognized Indian university degree with excellent academic background. There is also application fee to apply for this scholarship.
Repayments Schedule to NSF: Repayment will commence one year after course completion as per the following schedule:
1st year after course completion: NIL
2nd year after course completion: 30% of

Oxford and Cambridge Society of India
Scholarships are awarded to those students who want to study at the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge. This scholarship is worth of 1, 00,000 to international student to study either in Oxford or in Cambridge. Last to date to apply for the scholarship is 30th April’11 and candidate should not be ore than 26yrs of age as on 1st May’11.

The Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards
This Award is for outstanding graduate students from India, China, Hong Kong, Russia and the developing world to pursue PhDs in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, social sciences and technology. The last date for applying was 7th Jan’11. Students has to hold excellent academic record to apply for this scholarship and have to apply through The Foreign & Commonwealth Office Academic Technology Approval Scheme which university has to inform the student.

Ford Foundation Visiting Fellowship
This scholarship is made to support candidates from social groups which have lack of access for higher education. A candidate should be from Indian nationality and currently residing and working in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand. He must hold a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree from a recognized university with at least 55% marks. He/ she should have at least three years’ full-time work experience relevant to area of study. The Ford Foundation works in 12 grant-making areas and they are:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to those students who have excellent education from outside the UK to study at the University of Cambridge. Gates Cambridge Scholarships are highly competitive full-cost awards for full-time graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The deadline to apply in this scholarships was 15 October’10/ 1 December’10

J.N. Tata Endowment
All Indian students can apply for this scholarship and below the age of 45. He/ She should be graduated from Indian University with excellent academic background. The deadline of this scholarship is 21Feb’11. For applying to this scholarship candidate have to pay Rs.100/- either in cash or by demand draft. Also candidate has to come for the face to face interview he got selected.

The Sir Ratan Tata Scholarships
This grant is provided to those students who are planning to study post-graduate and doctoral studies. The last date of applying for this grant is 31st May’11. The grant to students consists of only a partial international airfare from India to the university and student has to apply 3-4 month prior to their date. For applying the grant student should have confirmed admission letter from the university.

K. C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad
Since its inception, the trust has promoted education mainly by way of scholarships and grants to deserving and needy students. Some of these were instituted way back in the mid 1950s while others were founded more recently, a proof of its continuous efforts to bring about social and economic development through a literate, enlightened and empowered populace.

K. C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad
The K C Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad is an interest free loan scholarship which is awarded to deserving graduates interested in pursuing their post graduate studies overseas. This scholarship has been ongoing since 1956. Announcement of the scholarship is done in the month of January in leading newspapers throughout India.
To be eligible, the candidate is required to possess a First Class degree or equivalent diploma of the same standard from a recognized university. The candidate must have secured admission or at least have applied for admission to a reputable university or institution abroad at the time of submission of the application form. The application form can be collected from our office at the end of January. Shortlisted students are called for the final interviews which are held in July.
