The University of Oxford had reason to celebrate this week as it knocked Oxbridge rivalUniversity of Cambridge off the top of the Complete University Guide Medicine subject ranking. Excelling in the areas of student satisfaction and research quality, it is the first time Oxford has been top of the table since 2012.
Other notable winners included University of Cardiff and Imperial College London. They rose 13 and 10 places respectively to leap into the top five overall, while Keele University also enjoyed huge improvements as it rose from 21st to 10th.
Nearly 100,000 students applied to study medicine and dentistry in 2014, with the ratio of applicants to places often 10:1.
