For the second consecutive year, the leading Scottish University, St Andrews, dominates the Guardian University Guide 2024, with Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and Imperial College London trailing closely. However, this year, the University of St Andrews has extended its gap to the Oxbridge pair.
Not only did the University of St Andrews dominate the University Guide, but also the subject ranking. 20 courses taught at St Andrews ranked in the top five, with Art History, Chemistry, English, History, International Relations, Management, Modern Languages, Neuroscience and Psychology securing the top position in their respective categories.
Highlighting St Andrew’s achievements, principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE said: “To be ranked top last year for the first time was very special. To upset the old order two years in succession may be habit forming. It is a great compliment to all of our fantastic academic and professional services staff, and our remarkable students.
Meanwhile, the University of Bath, UCL, Aberdeen, Swansea, all climbed one rank in the latest Guardian league table.
