The World University Rankings 2021 by Times Higher Education reveal a strong performance by UK higher education institutions with 29 UK universities featuring in the top 200 while the University of Oxford is ranked 1st on the list.
The total number of UK universities on the list have increased compared to last year whilst the University of Oxford was named the best university in the world for the fifth consecutive year.
The vice-chancellor of Oxford University, Louise Richardson, said: "We are delighted to have consolidated our position at the top of the THE World University Rankings this year. The international standing of British Higher Education is a testament to generations of investment in education as well as to our extraordinarily talented staff and students."
Other notable UK universities in the top 30 are University of Cambridge (6th), Imperial College London (11th), University College London (16th), London School of Economics and Political Science (27th) and the University of Edinburgh (30th).
The Times Higher Education Rankings judge research intensive universities across core performance factors such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, industry income and international outlook. The league tables are based on the performance evaluation of 1500 universities from more than 90 countries.
