The University of St Andrews beat Oxford and Cambridge to rank highest in the 2023 Guardian University Guide.
For the first time, the Scottish university was placed in the top spot amongst Britain’s top undergraduate institutions, followed by Oxford and Cambridge in the second and third position, respectively.
The rankings of the UK universities are done on various parameters such as staff-student ratios, student satisfaction and attainment data, and graduate outcomes.
In the 2023 Guardian University Guide, a detailed analysis shows that three universities are in a league of their own. St Andrews beat the Oxbridge universities by a small margin but has a larger gap over their rivals, such as the Imperial College London, who scored the highest level of student satisfaction for teaching in England.
The University also dominates the rankings for undergraduate subjects by grabbing the top spots for 30 out of the 66 subject areas, including economics, English, and chemistry.
“What a fantastic way to begin a new academic year, and at a time when the world we serve has rarely been in greater need of the transformational powers of the highest quality of independent research and teaching.” said Dame Sally Mapstone, Principal, and Vice-Chancellor Professor, The University of St Andrews.

I sincerely thank SI-UK for getting me accepted to UCL. The MSc in Urban Development and Planning is extremely competitive, but the right guidance provided by SI-UK made my dream of studying at University College London a reality. The services were exceptional from beginning to end.
