Overview

Anglia Ruskin University originates from the the Cambridge School of Art, opened by John Ruskin in 1858. Anglia Ruskin University gained university status in 1992, and has since has developed substantially. Anglia Ruskin now has over 30,000 students, making it the 13th largest university in the UK.

Anglia Ruskin offers students courses leading to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, in a wide range of subjects across four faculties: Arts; Law & Social Sciences; Business, Science & Technology; and Health, Social Care & Education.

In the Government's most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) for Higher Education Institutes, Anglia Ruskin came out as the top-rated modern university for Psychology, 2nd for English Language & Literature (including contributions from Communication, Film and Media), and 3rd for History.

Anglia Ruskin is rated 'world-leading' in 8 areas of research: Allied Health Professions & Studies; Art & Design; English Language & Literature; Geography & Environmental Studies; History; Music; Psychology and Social Work; Social Policy & Administration had a proportion of their work rated as 'world-leading'.  Over 30% of Anglia Ruskin's submissions were rated as 'internationally excellent' or 'world-leading'.

Services for International Students 

In the autumn 2010 International Student Barometer, an independent survey of current international students at UK universities, Anglia Ruskin University was ranked in the top 3 for its Welcome, Arrival and Orientation Programme for new international students.

Accommodation

Anglia Ruskin boasts a wide choice of accommodation in both Cambridge and Chelmsford.

The Cambridge accommodation ranges from brand new en-suite rooms, to traditional halls of residence, as well as shared houses and flats. All accommodation is located on, or very close to, campus and within walking distance of the city centre.

The 510 room Student Village is the Chelmsford on-campus accommodation, and is just a short walk from the sports hall and gym, library, shops and teaching spaces.

Location

Based in the east of England, Anglia Ruskin has two modern main campuses in two exciting cities, both less than one hour away from London.

Cambridge: The Cambridge campus is in the heart of this famous university city and has recently reached a milestone in its history with the opening of a new £35 million redevelopment. The regenerated campus opened in September 2011 and provides a wealth of new facilities.

Chelmsford: The Chelmsford site, known as the Rivermead campus, is a 10-minute walk from the town centre in a picturesque location on the banks of the river Chelmer. Rivermead is a thoroughly modern campus with most of the buildings being under 10 years old and packed with all the state-of-the-art facilities you would expect.

Both Cambridge and Chelmsford were recently rated in the top ten best places to live in the UK, and Anglia Ruskin's campuses are right in the centre of both cities, with state of the art learning, support, and recreational facilities.

Health Centre

A Medical Centre with an NHS GP surgery is available during semester times, and offers a full range of services.
