You are warmly invited to attend a lecture event at Queen’s University Belfast on Wednesday 23 May from 4pm, when eminent American historian Alan Brinkley will give the 2012 Kennedy Memorial Lecture on ‘The Irish Prince: John Kennedy and his Legacy’. The lecture will be hosted by the Chief Executives’ Club at Queen’s and the School of History and Anthropology. It will take place in the Great Hall, Queen’s Lanyon building. Alan Brinkley is the Allan Nevins Professor of History at Columbia University in New York, specialising in the history of twentieth-century America, and has also taught at Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge universities. His work has won a number of prestigious awards, including the US National Book Award. His most recent publication provides an incisive review of both the achievements and significant failures of the brief presidency of the United States’ youngest elected President: ‘John F Kennedy’, as part of the Barnes & Noble American Presidents Series. In his lecture at Queen’s University, Professor Brinkley will consider the strength and significance of this iconic President’s Irish roots. Refreshments will be served in the Great Hall from 4 pm and the lecture will begin at 4.30 pm. This event is free to attend.
