Introduction to Media and Communications

Media and Communication degrees cover a wide range of subjects, often being more theoretical than its Media Production counterpart. Modules are varied though and can consist of linguistics, photo editing, TV and radio production, audio manipulation and much more. Traditional theory and analytical based areas are also covered.

Above all, students will gain an in-depth understanding of how the media works in the 21st century. Following the first year of study, most Media and Communications courses will allow students to choose an area they wish to specialise in.

A Media and Communications degree will equip students with the base skills needed to succeed in many areas of the media industry. Graduates can expect to move into practical media roles in TV, radio, film, while copywriting, marketing and journalism are also viable options. What are the entry requirements for Media and Communications?

Many Media and Communications courses require a BTEC National Diploma in a relevant subject. Alternatively, traditional A-level subjects are accepted. For international students, an IELTS score of no less than 5.5 across all four categories - reading, writing, speaking and listening – with an overall 6.0 score generally required.
