The R&A Ransome Scholarship was established in 1994 as the Dr Ernest L Ransome III Scholarship, as a way for the friends and associates of Dr Ransome to recognise his commitment to philanthropy, education and athletics. The scholarship's mission is to enrich the experience of deserving postgraduate students by affording them the opportunity to attend the University of St Andrews.

The R&A Ransome Scholarship is available to graduate students from the USA or Canada entering a one-year taught postgraduate course: MLitt, MRes, MSc

Canada, USA

Level of study

One-year taught postgraduate course: MLitt, MRes, MSc.

All other postgraduate programmes, including the Graduate Diploma, are not eligible for this scholarship. Distance learning courses, and collaborative Masters courses in which the first year is not undertaken at St Andrews, are also not eligible.

The Selection Committee seeks applicants who are academically qualified, well-rounded students who have demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Full tuition fees for each year of study.
  • Accommodation fees to cover residential university costs, and comparable fees to contribute towards private residential costs.
