The Department of PPR invites applications for an interdisciplinary PhD that brings together at least two of the department’s constituent disciplines; politics and /or international relations; philosophy; and religion. Proposals should be concerned with a prospective research project that can be demonstrated to clearly benefit from the intersection of at least two of the three departmental subject areas. The successful project will clearly balance the proposed intersecting disciplines in a form that establishes a clear space for interdisciplinary research within the overall scope of PPR staff’s range of interests.

The bursary takes the form of a fee waiver for the duration of an individual's PhD studies & a contribution towards maintenance costs. Applications should be made on the ‘FASS Scholarship Application Form 2018-19’  and should be sent to Sheila Constantine at pprpg@lancaster.ac.uk   Email subject heading to read ‘FASS Postgraduate Scholarship Application PPR Interdisciplinary’.

Award criteria: The scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis. Candidates for a scholarship will be ranked based on the following criteria in order of priority:

  • Potential for an original contribution.
  • Evidence of scholarly ability:
         - clear and concise description of the study
         - awareness of current literature in the field
         - understanding of research methodology appropriate for an early stage postgraduate student
         - a research project that can be completed within the timeframe allowed for a PhD
