Heythrop College, University of London
Religion, Philosophy
Overview
Heythrop College, University of London was established in 1614 in Louvain by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) for the study of philosophy and theology. In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, it also provides a resource for faith communities and others, especially through the work of the Centres and Institutes.
All of Heythrop’s degree programmes can be taken part-time and, as a specialist college, it has a broad range of subjects areas which be studied which are not available elsewhere.
Heythrop students benefit from one-to-one tutorials for all of its undergraduate students for each of their assessed pieces of work, and the college is the only public higher education institution outside of Oxbridge to offer this. Heythrop scored 92% for satisfaction with teaching in the most recent National Student Survey, compared with a nationwide average of 86%.
Services
Heythrop is a small college, with just under 1,000 students enrolled, meaning an intimate approach to teaching and support is a huge positive to international students. Regular one-to-one tutorials are available for students wishing to benefit from pastoral care, support for learning differences and improvement of study skills. Each student is allocated a personal tutor who can help with any issues you may need support with.
Rankings
As Heythrop is a small college, there is a lack of ranking data available. The College did however enter the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise for the first time, and 50% of staff research was judged to be of international significance, and the panels recognising the direction and potential of future developments in a research environment.
